This is a federal planning calendar, not a promise that a private employer, school, state office, court, bank, or delivery service will close. State and local holidays, employer policies, alternative federal work schedules, and Inauguration Day are not deducted.

The table uses a Monday–Friday schedule and subtracts nationwide observed federal holidays. Inauguration Day is excluded because it applies only to designated federal employees in the Washington, DC inauguration area.
How the US working-day count works
Each Monday through Friday starts as a working day. We then subtract the nationwide observed federal holidays in 5 U.S.C. § 6103. When a fixed-date holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, the verified Friday or Monday observance in the annual dataset is the date that is removed.
The result is a federal planning baseline. It does not infer a private-sector entitlement or add state, local, school-district, court, banking, postal, or company-specific closure dates.

When this federal baseline is useful
Use the range mode for a project window, response period, or delivery estimate when a Monday–Friday federal calendar is the correct baseline. The result lists the federal holidays actually skipped instead of hiding the adjustment inside one number.
Use the add mode to answer questions such as “10 working days after this date.” Check the governing rule for legal deadlines: agencies, courts, contracts, carriers, and employers can define business days differently.

US working-day questions
- How many US working days are there in 2027?
- There are 249 Monday–Friday working days after the nationwide observed federal holidays in this calendar are removed. Your workplace total can differ because schedules and non-federal closures vary.
- Does the calculator remove observed federal holidays?
- Yes. It uses the observed date stored in the verified annual federal-holiday data, including a Friday or Monday observance when the statutory date falls on a weekend.
- Does a federal holiday require every private business to close?
- No. Federal holidays govern federal offices and employees under federal law; private employers set their own holiday schedules subject to applicable law and policy.
- Are state and local holidays included?
- No. The calculator deliberately stays at the nationwide federal layer and does not assume a state, city, school, court, bank, or employer closure.
- Is Inauguration Day deducted?
- No. Inauguration Day has limited geographic and employee scope, so it is not treated as a nationwide non-working day in this calculator.
